USA

Friday, November 5th - Depart the USA for Egypt.
We will spend time retracing the "Footsteps of Moses" and the Israelites in the wilderness, visit the ancient tombs and temples -- perhaps the very spot where Pharaohs daughter drew the baby Moses from the water and visit the Mummy Room where there are strong chances you will be face to face with the same Pharaoh that Moses spoke to at the time of the Exodus. Join us for a great time of learning and fellowship!

Cairo

Saturday, November 6th - Welcome to Egypt! Egypt as a place, and as a nation, is one of the most frequently mentioned names in the Bible. From the time when Abram went down to Egypt in a famine, to baby Jesus' flight to Egypt, it spans Genesis to the Gospels. It is full of meaning and symbolism. In the book of Genesis, Egypt is mentioned frequently, and for a number of different purposes and occasions. An early mentioning of Egypt occurred in Genesis 12:10, when Abram was struggling to survive a famine, and he made the journey to Egypt to escape the severest part of the famine. This indicates that Egypt was seen as a place of prosperity, a view corroborated a few verses later in, where Lot and Abram separate, and Lot chooses the best land, "Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered, like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, toward Zoar."

Modern day Cairo is one of the most straightforward cities you can visit. The pace is frenetic, but the place is honest: in-your-face rather than watch-your-back. Acclimatised, you mingle unnoticed. One of millions - about 16 million, in the second most crowded capital in the world. Vertically it is 20th century, with billboards flung against the sky, but in tone it is biblical: shades of baked earth as far the eye can see. Upon arrival in Cairo you will meet your bilingual escort who will remain with the tour for the remainder of your stay. You will be transferred by private deluxe motor coach to your hotel. After check-in at the hotel, you will have freshen up time before the welcome/orientation lunch followed by ample time to rest before leaving to visit Khan Ali-Kalil, Cairo's biggest open air market. Virtually unchanged since the 14th century some of the people here have been in the Khan market business for generations. Located in the heart of Cairo, stroll through rows and rows of exotic jewelry, spices, perfumes and souvenirs. Be sure you've honed your haggling skills and put them to good use here, no price is ever fixed! Start low and work back and forth with the vendor. Haggling is actually seen as a way of communicating and some vendors are insulted if you don't haggle because it’s a way of interacting with them! Later return to the hotel for a welcome dinner (dinner included)

Sunday, November 7th - Following breakfast at the hotel you are off by camel to the Pyramids at Giza. Your tour escort, also a professional Egyptologist, is an expert in the history and anthropology will lead you on a fascinating tour of ancient Egypt. Sole survivors from the ancient Greek-listed Seven Wonders of the World, the amazing pyramids at Giza are the planet's oldest tourist attraction! It is amazing to think that these Pyramids were well known to Jacob, Moses and Aaron at the time of the Exodus and were probably seen by Jesus himself. Along with the Pyramids, the Sphinx is one of the most renowned monuments in Egypt. All your friends will be jealous when you tell them you saw the Sphinx in person because of its huge magnificence. The Sphinx (minus beard and nose) still guards the Giza Plateau with dignity and allure.

Later this afternoon, return to Cairo for a tour of the Egyptian Museum for a a teaching on the wonders that are in this massive place that prove the Bible to be true via hieroglyphics. The actual name of Pharaoh of the Exodus is not recorded in the Bible but it may actually be possible to see the man (mummy) that Moses spoke to during the time of the Exodus.

Monday, November 8th - This morning after breakfast, visit the Citadel in Cairo. This massive stone fortress was built by Salah ad-Din in the 12th century. It was later crowned with the Mosque of Mohammed Ali. It now offers amazing views of the city and in the distance, if the haze has lifted, even the pyramids. The Citadel continues to serve as a historical monument to Egypt's tumultuous past. Follow the walking tour through the several enclosures located within the Citadel to absorb some of the historical significance. After free time for lunch, board your bus for Saint Catherine. Arrive in Saint Catherine this evening.

St. Catherine

Tuesday, November 9th - Discover the beauty of Saint Catherine, a city located at the foot of the Sinai High Mountains, during this morning's guided tour. Saint Catherine is a relatively new city, created when Bedouin tribes decided to cluster around the monastery. Then embark on a guided tour of Saint Catherine Monastery, the oldest continuously inhabited monastery in the world, which was built on the site where Moses talked to God at the Burning Bush. You'll also see the monastery's library, which has the largest religious collection after the Vatican. Enjoy an early dinner with your group (dinner included) and take some time to rest before departing for your post-midnight hike up Mount Sinai—also known as Moses Mountain—where Moses received the Ten Commandments.

Mount Sinai

Wednesday, November 10th - Begin the day in prayer or meditation watching the sunrise from atop Mount Sinai. Enjoy a time of praise and incredible views of the Sinai wilderness, where in the book of Genesis God revealed him self to Moses and where he received the Ten Commandments (And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto Mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone--Exodus 34:4 ). Afterward have breakfast at your hotel. Next, travel to Port Nuweiba, where you'll take an hour-long ferry ride to Aqaba. Aqaba is located in the south of Jordan just accross the border from Eilat in Israel and is the only place in the whole country where you swim in the sea. The red sea has a fantastic underwaterscape. You need to experience the culture, immerse yourself with the realism of its life. That is the magic of Aqaba. No place on Earth has the geographic characteristics of its charm. Mountains, the sea and the desert. Its heaven on earth. later in the evening at the hotel enjoy dinner with the group (dinner included)

Wadi Rum Desert

Thursday, November 11th - Travel to Wadi Rum this morning, a protected area of desert wilderness in the south of Jordan where Lawrence of Arabia was filmed. Wadi Rum pronounced Wadi Raam is a valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock in southwest Jordan. Narrow canyons and fissures cut deep into the mountains and many conceal ancient rock drawings etched by the people of the desert. Bedouin tribes still live in these mountains, and their large tents can often be seen. This is a moon-scape like area of ancient wadis (valleys) and towering sandstone pillars that rise sheer from the pink and white desert sands. Wadi Rum was the haunt of Lawrence of Arabia and epitomizes the romance of the desert. It was described by Lawrence as "vast, echoing and God-like." Later today, you'll travel to Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Petra

Thursday, November 11th - Petra is the highlight of any tour to Jordan. Whether you are a first time visitor or you have visited this lost Nabatean city before, it holds a fascination like no other place. It is carved entirely from the natural multi-coloured stone and was extensively occupied for the thousand years between 500 B.C. and AD. 500. Originally settled by the Edomites, it is now mostly Nabatean, with Roman and Byzantine influences. By the time of the Arab invasion only a few Bedouins lived there until the Crusaders arrived in 1101 AD. Today we spend a full-day discovering the city for ourselves. The main entrance into Petra is through the Siq, a narrow 1.2 km long gorge hemmed in by 100m high cliffs. The first glimpse of Al Khazneh (The Treasury) as you abruptly reach the end of the Siq is truly breathtaking and no amount of descriptive prose does it justice; it is best-experienced first-hand.

Madaba

Friday, November 12th - Today we travel through the Biblical Lands of Madaba. En-route stop to visit Mount Nebo, the site where Moses stood and looked across to the Promised Land (And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that [is] over against Jericho. And the LORD shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea, And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar -- Deuteronomy 34:1). This is also Moses' burial place (And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day --Deuteronomy 34:6).. We visit the St. George's Church and its sixth century mosaics which are still being excavated. The journey then continues on to the ancient city of Madaba, the city of Mosaics - a Moabite town, known as Medaba in the Bible, it has throughout history been a strong Christian influence in the area. Arrive later today at your resort on the Dead Sea for dinner (dinner included) .

Amman/Dead Sea

Saturday, November 13th - (And the border shall go down to Jordan, and the goings out of it shall be at the salt sea: this shall be your land with the coasts thereof round about. --Numbers 34:12) )Enjoy a free day at your Dead Sea resort. Deep in the Jordan Valley and 55 km southeast of Amman, is the Dead Sea, one of the most spectacular natural and spiritual landscapes in the whole world. It is the lowest body of water on earth, the lowest point on earth, and the world's richest source of natural salts, hiding wonderful treasures that accumulated throughout thousands of years. As its name evokes, the Dead Sea is devoid of life due to an extremely high content of salts and minerals which gives its waters the renowned curative powers, therapeutic qualities, and its buoyancy, recognized since the days of Herod the Great, more than 2000 years ago. And because the salt content is four times that of most world's oceans, you can float in the Dead Sea without even trying, which makes swimming here a truly unique experience not to be missed: here is the only place in the world where you can recline on the water to read a newspaper or bible. Although sparsely populated and serenely quiet now, the area has a historical and spiritual legacy of its own. It is believed to be the site of five biblical cities: Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zebouin and Zoar. After a dip in the Dead Sea, visit The Archaeological Museum to view a collection of unusual archaeological includes the famous Dead Sea Scrolls. The Dead Sea scrolls consist of about 900 documents, including texts from the Hebrew Bible, discovered between 1947 and 1956 in eleven caves. Before the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest Hebrew manuscripts of the Bible were Masoretic texts dating to 9th century AD. The biblical manuscripts found among the Dead Sea Scrolls push that date back a millennium to the 2nd century BC. Before this discovery, the earliest extant manuscripts of the Old Testament were in Greek in manuscripts such as Codex Vaticanus Graecus 1209 and Codex Sinaiticus.

Sunday, November 14th - If you are continuing on the optinal extension, depart for Jerusalem. Or opt to visit the CHURCH OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST and the CHURCH OF VISITATION, said to be built over the home of John the Baptist's parents. Enjoy a beautiful view of the valley and the surrounding wooded hills. Continue to Shepherd's Field, where the angels announced the birth of Jesus. Otherwise, relax at the resort or take a leisurely self guided tour of Amman. Built on seven hills (or Jebels) it has a long and fascinating history. Originally known as the Biblical Rabbath-Amrnon during Ammonite rule, in Hellenistic times it was rebuilt and renamed Philadelphia and was a city of the Decapolis. After a day of exploring you'll have time to rest before boarding your late-night flight home.
